HOMECOMING
Taking place every October, Homecoming is one of the biggest events of the year. The whole school week is full of Spirit Days and festivities leading up to the main Homecoming event and football game which take place on Friday evening. There is even a separate "Asking Week" which takes place before Homecoming Week. As you walk through the halls during Asking Week, it's common to see groups of people huddled around a particular student who is either dancing, singing, or giving a bouquet of roses for their asking. To add onto the fun, each day of Homecoming Week is a different spirit day and there's a 15 minute pep rally every day of the week. At the pep rallies, each grade, or class, competes to see who is the most spirited. Students will dress in their class colors, wear intricate costumes, create their own catchy pep rally chants, and shout and cheer in order to outdo the competition.
At the end of the week, there's MEX, or Musical Extravaganza. Each class prepares a dance performance for the big pep rally at the end of the week to compete for points. Other contests throughout the week include float-building, banner making, t-shirt designs, and fundraising for each class. At the end of the week, points are totaled up to see which class won the whole Homecoming competition!

I-Nite
I-Nite, or International Night, is one of the largest high school student-run performances in the country! Taking place annually, the performance is put on by TJ students in various clubs to celebrate cultural diversity. Family, teachers, TJ alumni, and peers can attend either the daytime show or evening show, which came to be in order to accommodate for popular demand. Rather than taking place at TJ, I-Nite is held at George Mason University's Center for the Arts which has a seat capacity of 2000! I-Nite tickets sell out extremely fast (within 2 minutes in 2019), and performing acts will practice months in advance to prepare for the grand performance. Some of the clubs that perform are Korean Culture Club, Namaste (Men, Underclassmen Girls, and Senior Girls), German Honor Society, Black Student Union, Urban Dance Movement, and more.

Jefferson day (JDAY)
Food. Food. More food.
JDAY is TJ's "field day." Almost all clubs will run a stand and sell food in order to fundraise. During this time, you essentially get to walk around the school and eat delicious food. There are also many attractions and games including sponge wars, moon bounces, and student performances. In addition, a basketball tournament is held throughout the month leading up to JDAY. |
